The American Quarter Horse Association will begin the transition to microchips in place of lip tattoos to identify racing American Quarter Horses effective January 1, 2024. This follows the announcement by US Equestrian that beginning December 1, 2025 all horses competing in USEF-endorsed competitions must be microchipped. Dr. Katie Flynn, Equine Health and Biosecurity Veterinarian for the USEF strongly recommends the use of the bio-thermo chip with the biosensor that also measures themperature.
